. . . First and foremost . . . and the artists behind it!
Remember the days when an A&R of a record company had the guts to believe in music? Remember the days when the A&R department of a record company had the "say" over the marketing . . . the latter was a hired tool to develop something that was created: Music and Art!
Well, we are bringing those days back, and we are here to stay!
This is how we see it . . . We believe that artists "create" . . . they see something that has not been seen yet . . . sounds, words, musical landscapes. So, we make the artist and the creation the center, the focus, the reason, and the purpose of it all.
Sure we believe in marketing . . . but we see it as a consequence, not a cause, a servant, not a ruler. Today's marketing is based on what already exists: tendencies, field researches, demographics, etc. All things that are already there. Marketing is "reactive" by nature, a child of science of behaviorism.
Art, on the contrary, is creation . . . a child of inspiration! Art rejuvenates, redefines, pushes the envelope, takes you places you haven't been before. Art is "proactive" by nature.
As a matter of fact, we do not recall any great "marketing genius" behind Gershwin, Villa Lobos, and Hendrix, or Miles . . . None behind Janis Joplin, Jaco Pastorius, Antonio Carlos Jobim or Billie Holiday . . . no million-dollar campaigns to launch the careers of Nat King Cole, Cole Porter, and play their music repeatedly on all radios, until everyone ends up thinking they like it . . . no "wagging the dog" was necessary, because THERE WAS ART!
Yes, we are here to present you with something very very old, and very very new at the same time: ART AND MUSIC! Old because it was born with mankind . . . New, because it hasn't been practiced much lately in this industry.
Since when does speaking with a funny sound have anything to do with music? Maybe with acting. Since when does playing 2 crooked chords on a guitar to impress the chicks qualifies for a musician's career? It is kind of like "I know the Tylenol is good for headaches, but it doesn't make me a doctor"!
So, we won't show you any new trendy teenager that has no talent, and that all of a sudden qualifies as a singer because he or she was the voice of some mouse, in some TV show that no one remembers . . . Let them become great actors, and if they learn to make music, them be it!
We will, though, bring you artists of any age, from truly talented young teens to no age limit . . . as long as they create, as long as they have something to say other than "how cool is the latest pair of $500 jeans they just bough at Aber Fitch & Crummy Dummy" . . . none of those young trend-following girls who believe they have to binge daily to look "beautiful" and fit into a mold . . . We will bring you those that create new molds, of all shapes and sizes . . . and yes, they can be beautiful too, as long as they also have true, inspired talent . . . Remember Shirley Temple or The Jackson 5 for that matter?
And no, we are not snobs . . . we love all kinds of art and music: simple and entertaining to deep and reflective. Just one pre-requisite: it has to be real, not made up somewhere outside of the realm of ART . . . that sacred place were ARTISTS come from!
